UT MD Anderson Cancer Center

Texas Children’s Hospital

Kinder Foundation
The time is now.
Texas has one of the youngest and fastest-growing populations in the country. It’s also home to the second largest population of children with cancer. Kinder Children’s Cancer Center will serve these patients while making discoveries that can transform pediatric oncology around the world.

The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center
UT MD Anderson Cancer Center is one of the world’s most respected centers devoted exclusively to cancer patient care, research, education and prevention. Located in the Texas Medical Center, UT MD Anderson provides cancer care at several locations throughout the Greater Houston Area and partners with hospitals and health systems nationwide through its cancer network.
UT MD Anderson was created in 1941 as part of The University of Texas System. The institution is one of the nation’s original three comprehensive cancer centers designated by the National Cancer Act of 1971 and is one of 57 National Cancer Institute-designated comprehensive cancer centers today.
U.S. News & World Report’s “Best Hospitals” rankings has named UT MD Anderson the nation’s top hospital for cancer care. The institution has been named one of the nation’s top two hospitals for cancer care every year since the survey began in 1990.
Newsweek named UT MD Anderson as the top hospital for oncology in its 2024 “World’s Best Specialized Hospitals” and “America’s Best Cancer Hospitals” rankings.
Kinder Foundation
Rich and Nancy Kinder have long been pillars of Houston’s philanthropic community. Through Kinder Foundation, they focus on enriching the greater Houston area through transformational grants that impact urban green space, education and quality of life. When Park Shaper, chairman of the Texas Children’s Hospital board, introduced a bold new partnership with UT MD Anderson Cancer Center, the Kinders recognized an opportunity that aligned perfectly with their mission. For Nancy, who has served on UT MD Anderson’s Board of Visitors for two decades, it was an immediate “right opportunity” to support something groundbreaking.
Over several weeks, Shaper, along with UT MD Anderson’s president Dr. Peter Pisters and Texas Children’s CEO Debbie Sukin, outlined a vision for an independent childhood cancer initiative with one singular goal: to end childhood cancer.
This partnership met every criterion for the Kinders, who seek truly catalytic donations. By stepping forward as lead donors, Rich and Nancy Kinder have anchored a campaign that we believe can reframe the fight against pediatric cancer, reshape Houston’s future, and inspire hope for generations to come.
